The beauty industry contains many environmental issues that extend far beyond packaging. From SLS and parabens which are harmful to the environment, to microplastics contained in face creams that are washed down drains and harm aquatic life to carcinogenic preservatives, it’s clear that a new way of thinking needs to be introduced to the industry to reformulate products themselves.

I developed my own concept for a brand, Ritual, a line of all-natural, waste-free anti-aging lotion bars. Traditional cosmetics, in the form of balms and bars have the same shelf-life without the need of a preservative; this is because they are not water based. Lotion bars are simply used by just breaking a small piece off, warming in hands for 30 seconds, and then rubbing on skin.
